The consultancy offers an opportunity for an experienced editorial and design professional to contribute to a resource intended to strengthen gender-transformative leadership and intersectional approaches within the global health sector.

The selected consultant will be responsible for improving the clarity, consistency and accessibility of the publication while developing a professional visual presentation suitable for both print and digital distribution.

The assignment will cover approximately 80–100 pages, including the main handbook, accompanying tools, templates and annexes. The consultant will work under the supervision of WGH's Director of Movement Building, with additional support from the Communications Manager.

The engagement is expected to begin on 30 November 2026 and conclude on 18 December 2026, covering 15 working days.

About Women in Global Health

Women in Global Health is a women-led movement working to promote women's leadership and advance gender equity across global health.

The organization supports efforts to strengthen the capacity, knowledge and skills of its Chapters, enabling members and partners to apply gender-transformative leadership and intersectionality in their work.

Through the development of the GTLI Handbook and Toolkit, WGH aims to provide practitioners, partners and other stakeholders with practical guidance and resources for integrating these approaches into leadership development.

The consultancy will help ensure that these materials are professionally presented, accessible and ready for wider dissemination.

Purpose of the Consultancy

The main purpose of the assignment is to undertake professional copyediting, proofreading, graphic design and publication production for the GTLI Handbook and Toolkit.

The consultant will work with the reviewed and validated content, ensuring that the final materials communicate their intended messages accurately while meeting professional editorial and design standards.

The specific objectives include:

  • Copyediting and proofreading the complete handbook and accompanying toolkit.

  • Improving language, grammar, punctuation, readability and consistency without changing the technical meaning.

  • Applying inclusive and gender-sensitive language throughout the publication.

  • Developing a professional visual identity and layout that follows WGH's branding requirements.

  • Producing print-ready and digital versions of the completed documents.

  • Ensuring that the final publications are suitable for distribution to practitioners, partners and other stakeholders.

Scope of Work and Responsibilities

The selected consultant will undertake two major areas of work: editorial refinement and publication design and production.

1. Copyediting and Proofreading

The consultant will conduct a comprehensive editorial review of the GTLI Handbook and Toolkit, covering narrative sections, practical tools, templates and annexes.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing and copyediting all written content to improve clarity, readability, grammar, spelling, punctuation and sentence structure.

  • Maintaining a consistent writing style, tone and voice across the entire publication.

  • Standardizing headings, subheadings, numbering, terminology and formatting in accordance with WGH's editorial guidelines.

  • Ensuring appropriate and consistent use of gender-sensitive and inclusive language.

  • Identifying unclear, repetitive, or inconsistent passages and recommending improvements without changing the technical content or intended messages.

  • Checking acronyms, technical terminology, tables, figures, captions, numbering, and cross-references for consistency.

  • Reviewing citations and references to ensure they follow a consistent referencing style.

  • Incorporating comments and feedback from the WGH project team after the initial editorial review.

The consultant will also be responsible for proofreading the final designed documents against the approved edited text. This final review will cover spelling, punctuation, typographical errors, page numbering, table of contents, headings, captions, hyperlinks and cross-references.

All editorial amendments must be made using Microsoft Word's Track Changes function. The consultant must provide both a clean copy-edited document and a version containing tracked changes and comments for review.

2. Graphic Design, Layout and Publication Production

In addition to editorial responsibilities, the consultant will develop and apply a professional design for the handbook and toolkit.

The design work will include:

  • Developing a visual design concept that reflects the purpose and professional character of the GTLI Handbook and Toolkit.

  • Following WGH's branding requirements, including its approved colours, fonts and logo guidelines.

  • Applying the agreed Microsoft Word and PDF templates where these are provided.

  • Designing an attractive and appropriate cover page and section divider pages.

  • Formatting tables, charts, diagrams and infographics to improve readability and visual consistency.

  • Establishing consistent typography, spacing, headings, page layouts and colour schemes throughout the publication.

  • Incorporating feedback from the project team and making the necessary design revisions.

  • Preparing the final documents for both print and digital distribution.

The consultant must also provide complete source files and an asset package. This should include original editable design files, such as Adobe InDesign and Illustrator files, linked images, font information, and folders containing any custom icons and illustrations developed during the assignment.

Expected Deliverables

The consultancy will involve several stages of work, with each deliverable subject to review and approval by WGH.
