About Just Associates (JASS)

Just Associates (JASS) is a feminist movement-strengthening organisation founded in 2001 by activist organisers, researchers, popular educators, and movement thinkers.

Rooted in the Majority World, JASS works to strengthen women's leadership, organising capacity, and the collective power of social movements. Its work is concentrated across three regions: Southeast Asia, Southern Africa, and Mesoamerica.

The organisation's vision is a just, liberated, and sustainable world where everyone can live freely and safely, with the resources they need, while the planet and all living beings are cared for.

JASS advances its mission through an approach known as Just Power, which focuses on building the long-term collective power of movements and strengthening the leadership of women and marginalised communities.

Its work prioritises activists and Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs), young women, women workers, LBTQI+ communities, Indigenous women, rural and urban women, HIV-positive women, sex workers, and women defending land and territory.

JASS Global Agendas

The organisation advances four interconnected global agendas:

  1. Shaping Civic Space and Collective Safety: Challenging authoritarianism and imperialism while strengthening collective protection.

  2. Bodies, Rights and Freedoms: Addressing fundamentalism and defending people's rights and freedoms.

  3. Feminist Economic and Climate Justice: Challenging extractive practices and exploitative economic systems.

  4. Feminist Popular Education to Strengthen Movements: Supporting the knowledge, infrastructure, and organising capacity of feminist movements.

JASS currently has a staff of 34 people representing diverse geographical, cultural, generational, and social backgrounds.

About the Resource Mobilisation Coordinator Position

JASS is recruiting a Resource Mobilisation Coordinator to support the implementation of its organisational fundraising and resource mobilisation strategy.

The successful candidate will coordinate funding opportunities, proposal development, donor reporting, relationship management systems, and fundraising communications across the organisation.

Working closely with the Resource Mobilisation Director, regional teams, and other functional departments, the Coordinator will help strengthen JASS' funding pipeline, diversify funding sources, and maintain sustainable relationships with donors and funding partners.

A major aspect of the position involves communicating the political significance of JASS' work and making the case for long-term, flexible, and adequate funding for feminist movements.

The role requires strong writing, research, coordination, and organisational abilities, alongside a commitment to feminist politics, social justice, and ethical approaches to resource distribution.

The position does not normally involve direct staff supervision, although the Coordinator may occasionally coordinate interns or consultants working under short-term agreements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Donor Reporting and Institutional Compliance

The Resource Mobilisation Coordinator will oversee and coordinate donor reporting processes to ensure that funding commitments and institutional requirements are fulfilled.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating the global donor reporting calendar and tracking deadlines, responsibilities, internal reviews, and submission requirements.

  • Leading or coordinating the preparation, editing, and quality assurance of institutional donor reports.

  • Working with regional teams, programme staff, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL), and Finance and Operations colleagues to gather reporting information.

  • Supporting regional teams with report writing, editing, and review.

  • Coordinating bilateral compliance processes, including sanctions checks and International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) requirements, in collaboration with relevant teams.

  • Gathering evidence, analysis, and learning to demonstrate JASS' contribution to feminist movement-building and long-term political change.

  • Preparing donor updates, renewal documents, briefing notes, and follow-up communications.

  • Monitoring donor commitments, grant periods, reporting obligations, and renewal opportunities.

  • Identifying potential reporting delays and funding risks and bringing them to the attention of the relevant teams.

2. Funding Pipeline and Opportunity Coordination

The Coordinator will help identify, assess, and manage funding opportunities that align with JASS' organisational priorities and regional needs.

Key duties include:

  • Maintaining and regularly updating the global funding pipeline.

  • Tracking prospective donors, funding opportunities, cultivation activities, proposal development, funding decisions, renewals, and reporting commitments.

  • Researching potential funding sources, including foundations, bilateral and multilateral agencies, philanthropic networks, and other aligned institutions.

  • Assessing funding opportunities against organisational priorities, regional requirements, funding gaps, and fundraising ethics.

  • Preparing donor profiles, funding briefs, background research, and meeting notes.

  • Monitoring changes in donor priorities, philanthropic trends, and development financing.

  • Providing funding intelligence to support organisational planning and decision-making.

  • Identifying opportunities for multi-year, core, and flexible funding partnerships.

3. Proposal Development and Coordination

The successful candidate will coordinate the preparation and submission of funding proposals and other fundraising materials.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing proposal development from initial opportunity identification through final submission.

  • Establishing proposal timelines, gathering contributions, assigning responsibilities, and coordinating internal reviews.

  • Drafting, editing, and coordinating funding proposals, concept notes, expressions of interest, and institutional profiles.

  • Supporting the preparation of budget narratives in collaboration with Finance and Operations teams.

  • Ensuring proposals communicate JASS' political analysis, theory of change, feminist popular education, and movement-strengthening approach.

  • Maintaining proposal templates, organisational information, and institutional documentation.

  • Supporting the development of funding partnerships and consortium proposals.

  • Coordinating contributions from consortium partners and monitoring related commitments.

  • Documenting proposal development processes and lessons to improve future fundraising activities.

4. Donor Communications and Influence Support

The Coordinator will contribute to donor engagement and fundraising communications, working alongside the Resource Mobilisation Director and Communications team.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Developing targeted donor communications, including funding updates, annual messages, appeals, and event invitations.

  • Supporting mid-year and end-of-year donor outreach campaigns.

  • Maintaining records and tracking information relating to individual donors.

  • Preparing briefing documents and background notes for donor meetings.

  • Helping colleagues understand donor priorities, previous engagement, relationship histories, and follow-up requirements.

  • Identifying funding opportunities that support solidarity mechanisms and wider movement-strengthening activities.

  • Communicating the importance of flexible, redistributive, and long-term funding for feminist movements.

  • Supporting internal learning and knowledge-sharing on fundraising ethics and changing funding environments.

  • Ensuring fundraising activities remain consistent with JASS' political commitments and relationships with movements and funding partners.

Required Experience and Professional Skills

Applicants should demonstrate relevant experience in resource mobilisation, fundraising, proposal development, donor reporting, and institutional partnerships.

The organisation is particularly interested in candidates with experience working in feminist, social justice, or movement-building organisations.

Other requirements include:

  • Excellent English writing, editing, research, and synthesis skills.

  • Ability to communicate complex political and organisational issues clearly to donors and funding partners.

  • Experience developing donor relationships or strengthening alliance and consortium partnerships.

  • Strong coordination, organisational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple deadlines.

  • Experience working with geographically dispersed teams.

  • Experience maintaining donor databases, funding pipelines, and institutional information systems.

  • Familiarity with Bloomerang is desirable.

  • Experience monitoring grant finances and supporting financial reporting in collaboration with Finance and Operations teams.

  • Ability to assess funding opportunities in relation to organisational strategy, fundraising ethics, and institutional independence.

  • Commitment to feminist principles, intersectional analysis, Majority World leadership, and the political agency of social movements.

Experience with multi-year institutional grants, bilateral funding, philanthropic foundations, consortium arrangements, and flexible or core funding will be an advantage.

Language requirement: Excellent English proficiency is required. Spanish language skills are desirable.

Personal and Organisational Qualifications

JASS expects candidates to demonstrate:

  • A strong commitment to intersectional feminism, social justice, equality, and transformative change.

  • Understanding of the political and social context of at least one of JASS' three regions: Southeast Asia, Southern Africa, or Mesoamerica.

  • Commitment to feminist movements and their political agency.

  • Curiosity, initiative, and willingness to engage with JASS' 2023–2033 strategy framework.

  • Strategic thinking and planning abilities.

  • Experience in budgeting and programme or project management.

  • Ability to coordinate complex processes and contribute to wider organisational priorities.

Working Arrangements and Travel

This is a remote position within a geographically dispersed international organisation.

The successful candidate must be comfortable working with colleagues and partners across different time zones and cultural contexts.

Additional expectations include:

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.

  • Flexibility in working hours to accommodate colleagues and partners in different regions.

  • Strong cross-cultural communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Willingness and availability to travel regionally and internationally when required.

The Resource Mobilisation Director is currently based in Indian Standard Time (IST), which may influence coordination and meeting schedules.

Salary and Benefits

JASS offers a starting annual salary of USD 53,550, calculated as the total cost to company.

The organisation follows an equitable compensation approach, providing the same starting salary regardless of the employee's location.

The benefits package includes:

  • Employer-paid health insurance.

  • Generous vacation leave.

  • National holidays.

  • Health leave.

The stated salary is the total cost to company, rather than a separately specified take-home salary.

Contract Duration and Employment Conditions

The initial employment offer is for one year, including a three-month probationary period.

JASS intends this appointment to develop into a longer-term or permanent position, subject to mutual assessment.

The organisation explains that it is seeking someone who can contribute to a meaningful, long-term chapter of its work rather than simply filling a short-term vacancy.

The position is designed to contribute to three-year organisational and political outcomes, with the initial contract serving as the starting period for that commitment.
